From a trial-watching Discord to a community built on facts, education, and understanding.
Side Bah Investigates didn't begin as a Reddit page, a Discord server, or a merchandise store.
It began during the second Karen Read trial.
Like many people following the case, I found myself discussing testimony, evidence, courtroom strategy, and daily developments with a group of people who were just as interested in understanding the facts as I was.
Somewhere along the way, we started joking about the Boston pronunciation of the word sidebar. Instead of "sidebar," we'd jokingly say "Side Bah."
The joke stuck.
It became a running theme in our conversations, and before long, when we decided to create a private Discord server where we could gather to discuss the trial, share ideas, and learn together, there was really only one name that made sense.
We called it Side Bah.
What none of us realized at the time was that a simple joke and a private Discord server would become the foundation for a growing community of people who wanted to understand the facts behind the headlines.
Where My Interest Began
My interest in criminal justice started long before Side Bah Investigates existed.
I completed two years of Criminal Justice coursework in college before financial circumstances forced me to leave school. While I wasn't able to complete my degree, those years gave me a valuable foundation in criminal law, investigations, courtroom procedure, and the criminal justice system.
Even before college, my interest was shaped by two important women in my life.
My step-grandmother worked in forensic science with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, specializing in fiber analysis and tire and shoe print comparisons. Hearing about her work sparked my fascination with investigations and the role forensic evidence plays in finding answers.
My mother loved true crime and always dreamed of becoming a police officer. Life took her in another direction, and she became a mother instead, but her curiosity and passion for understanding cases never faded.
Together, those influences helped shape what would eventually become Side Bah Investigates.
Why I Started Creating Trial Breakdowns
As our Side Bah discussions continued, I found myself explaining courtroom procedures, translating legal terminology into plain language, and providing context around testimony and evidence.
The goal was never to tell people what to think.
The goal was to help people understand what they were seeing.
Court cases can be confusing. Legal jargon can be intimidating. Expert testimony can feel overwhelming. Too often, people are handed pieces of information without the context needed to understand what those details actually mean.
So I began creating breakdowns that translated complex testimony, legal concepts, forensic evidence, and courtroom procedures into something easier to follow.
The response was overwhelmingly positive.
Eventually, members of our community encouraged me to share those breakdowns publicly.
The Birth of Side Bah Investigates
Many people suggested TikTok, YouTube, and other social media platforms.
While those ideas were exciting, I knew one thing immediately:
I didn't want to become the focus.
I wanted the cases to remain the focus.
That's why I created MoonTygr713, an online identity that would allow me to share research, educational content, trial breakdowns, timelines, and case analysis while maintaining a degree of privacy.
Soon after came Reddit.
What started as several people following a trial together evolved into a growing community centered around learning, understanding, and asking questions.
And that community became Side Bah Investigates.
What Makes Side Bah Investigates Different?
At its core, Side Bah Investigates was built around a simple belief:
People deserve facts before opinions.
In today's true crime environment, sensational headlines, speculation, and personal opinions can sometimes overshadow the actual facts of a case. When that happens, information can become misunderstood, misrepresented, or completely lost.
That confusion often creates fertile ground for misinformation, assumptions, and conspiracy theories.
We believe there is a better way.
Our mission is to:
✅ Present facts clearly
✅ Explain legal concepts in understandable language
✅ Provide context for evidence and testimony
✅ Encourage critical thinking
✅ Respect victims and families
✅ Separate facts from speculation
✅ Educate rather than sensationalize
Side Bah Investigates is a place where truth, clarity, understanding, compassion, education, and justice come first.
Not narratives.
Not agendas.
Not clicks.
Cases That Helped Shape Our Community
Over the years we've followed cases involving homicide investigations, missing persons, complex criminal trials, forensic evidence, mental health defenses, and high-profile court proceedings.
Some of the cases that have helped shape our community include Lindsay Clancy, Gerhardt Konig, Tomasz Kosowski, Blaze Taylor, Zachariah Rasch, George Pino, and Mario Fernandez Saldana, among others.
Today, we continue following ongoing developments in cases such as the Gilbert Goons investigations, the Preston Lord case, Sarah Grace Patrick, Lynette Horner, Celeste Rivas Hernandez, and many more as new information becomes available.
Every case reminds us why context matters, why facts matter, and why education matters.
A Quick Note About Me
One thing I want to be transparent about:
Side Bah Investigates is not my full-time job.
Like many of you, I work a regular day job. I work in shipping and logistics in a small North Carolina town.
Everything you see from Side Bah Investigates happens during evenings, weekends, lunch breaks, and whatever free time life allows.
No one pays me to do this.
This started as a passion project.
And it still is.
As an independent reporter and researcher, I spend my personal time reviewing public records, following court proceedings, organizing information, creating educational breakdowns, and helping others better understand complex cases and legal processes.
Why We Created BahFinds
Today marks the launch of BahFinds, our official merchandise store.
Before anyone asks:
No, this isn't a donation drive.
And nobody is expected to purchase anything.
BahFinds was created as a fun way for people who want to support the community to do so while getting something tangible in return.
Sure, you might pick up your next detective uniform in the form of a t-shirt.
Maybe you'll grab a hoodie, a blanket for a late-night true crime documentary binge, or a coffee mug for your morning briefing or evening debriefing.
But BahFinds serves a larger purpose.
As Side Bah Investigates has grown, so have the costs associated with obtaining records, researching cases, maintaining community resources, creating educational content, and expanding what we're able to provide.
Revenue generated through BahFinds helps us continue doing what we already do:
- Research cases
- Obtain public records and documents
- Build timelines
- Create educational graphics
- Organize forensic information
- Expand community resources
- Support the volunteers who contribute their time to research and discussions
- And yes... help keep the coffee flowing
Most importantly, BahFinds helps us remain independent.
There is absolutely no expectation that anyone purchase anything.
Reading our content, participating in discussions, asking thoughtful questions, sharing information, and helping others understand a case are equally valuable forms of support.
Why We're Launching a Public Discord
While Side Bah began as a private Discord community, today marks the launch of our very first public Discord server.
In many ways, this feels like coming home.
The public Discord allows us to expand on the conversations that started everything.
While Reddit remains our primary home for case updates and content, Discord creates opportunities for:
- Real-time discussions
- Case breakdown conversations
- Community engagement
- Educational resources
- Questions and answers
- Case suggestions
- Ongoing updates between major posts
It's a place for people who enjoy learning, discussing, questioning, and understanding the criminal justice system together.
Whether you're brand new to true crime or you've followed cases for years, there's a place for you here.
What Side Bah Investigates Is
Side Bah Investigates is an independent, community-driven platform focused on criminal cases, court proceedings, forensic evidence, and legal education.
Through public records, court documents, hearings, trial coverage, and case research, our goal is to provide context, clarity, and understanding while helping our community navigate complex cases and legal processes.
While we strive for accuracy, transparency, and fairness, our content should be viewed as educational and informational in nature and should not be considered legal advice or official investigative findings.
Our mission is simple:
Present facts responsibly. Provide context. Encourage thoughtful discussion.
The Next Chapter
Today is a big day for Side Bah Investigates.
We're launching both BahFinds and our public Discord community for the very first time.
Everything is new.
Everything is still evolving.
And truthfully, I'm still learning as I go.
But with the support, encouragement, and enthusiasm this community has shown, I truly believe we're building something special.
Not just a Reddit page.
Not just a Discord server.
Not just a merch store.
We're building a community where facts matter.
A community where respectful discussion matters.
A community where education matters.
A community where curiosity is encouraged.
A community where people can learn together.
What started as a joke among friends during a trial became Side Bah.
Today, Side Bah continues to grow because of every person who reads a post, asks a question, shares an update, joins a discussion, or helps someone better understand a case.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
The best chapters are still ahead.
